From rnewsom at cayuse.com Tue Jun 10 16:03:24 2008 From: rnewsom at cayuse.com (Rylan Newsom) Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2008 16:03:24 -0700 Subject: [Cayuse424 Users] NIH Opt-Out Opportunities (limited Validations) Message-ID: <043401c8cb4e$2f597aa0$8e0c6fe0$@com> Greetings, Today I would like to take some time and discuss NIH Opt-Out Opportunities (limited Validations). NIH has identified generic business rule checks (i.e. validations) that are applied against all applications submitted to NIH. These generic validations may apply to all mechanisms (e.g. all applications must include the eRA Commons username for the Principal Investigator in the credential field of the R&R Senior/Key Person Profile form) or they may apply to all applications for a specific grant program/mechanism (e.g. "Renewal" is not a valid application type for R21 applications). There is a limited set of mechanism specific validations that, although standard values are assigned, NIH Institutes and Centers (IC) may choose not to have eRA systems enforce applicant compliance with these standard values in order to allow alternative values specified in a Funding Opportunity Announcements to be accepted. When this happens we call it "opting-out of limited validations". In order to "opt-out" an IC must provide appropriate justification for why the standard values are not sufficient for the opportunity and gain special permission to change them. Less than 2% of NIH's posted opportunities are marked as "opt-out". If you notice a discrepancy between the validations you are receiving and the instructions listed in the FOA please make sure that you have chosen the correct set a validations for the proposal. If you're still not sure which validations should be used a list of NIH Opt-Out Opportunities can be found here: HYPERLINK "http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/files/funding_opportunity_announcement s_with_opt.cfm"http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/files/funding_opportunit y_announcements_with_opt.cfm . To switch your proposal from "NIH" to "NIH Opt-Out" simply change the validation setting using the validations drop-down menu at the bottom of the proposal screen. Cayuse424 will reload your proposal and check it against the new set of validations. This field is located on the SF424 R&R Key Persons page. CDMRP requires that the "PI's User Name provided from the CDMRP eReceipt system" be entered " into the data field labeled 'Credential, e.g., agency login'." When completing a CDMRP proposal please make sure that the correct credential is being used. Please note; no validation error will appear if the wrong credential is used. We have identified the source of this issue and will fix it in an upcoming release of Cayuse424. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. While we are very excited about the Firefox 3.0 release (see why below) we wanted to let you know that we have not fully tested its compatibility with Cayuse424 version 3.4. I will notify the Cayuse community as soon as we've completed our compatibility testing of Firefox v3.0. Why we're excited about Firefox 3.0: 1) Much better performance. It's FAST! 2) The "Awesome" Bar (aka the Location Bar) - Enter text in the Location Bar and a drop-down list appears of pages from your browsing history that include that text, not just in the URL, but in the page title or the page's tag (see No. 4 below). If you've already visited a Web page, there's a good chance it's useful to you. The Location Bar lets you very quickly search that useful subset of the Web. 3) Warnings - When you enter the URL of a suspected attack site, Firefox brings up a full-page warning. With a click, you can see a detailed explanation of why the site was blocked. 4) Better Bookmarks - If you like a page, you just click the star in the Location Bar and it's a favorite. A drop-down box lets you name it, choose a folder to put it in or add a tag to categorize it. Bookmarks (and your browsing history) are now stored in a database, which means you don't have to spend so much time organizing bookmark folders. 5) Whole-page zooming - If your eyes aren't what they used to be, it's nice to bump up the size of text on Web pages, as Firefox 2 will do. But it only changes the text size -- the other elements remain the same size. That makes for pages that look like The Incredible Hulk, with words bursting through the boxes and tabs that are supposed to contain them. The new Firefox magnifies everything on the page equally. Everything remains in proportion, but becomes easier to read. And the next time you visit that page, it'll display at the same level of zoom.
